Drake’s Sandwich Shop, opened in 1929 at 709 N. University Ave., was a beloved campus spot for U-M students and staff, known for its quirky charm and colorful candy shelves. Operated for decades by Truman and Millie Tibbals, it became a hub of memories and community before closing in 1994. Its legacy lives on through alumni stories and a 2015 historic marker.
