University of Michigan researcher Maria Castro, Ph.D., received the prestigious NIH Javits Neuroscience Investigator Award to advance her groundbreaking work on glioma, a deadly type of brain cancer. The seven-year, $4.5 million grant will support her team’s efforts to understand how immune cells interact with brain tumors and to develop new therapies for patients whose cancers recur. Castro aims to turn malignant brain cancer into a manageable chronic disease through research that bridges basic science and clinical application.
