U.S. demand for solar energy is rapidly growing, with record solar panel installations in 2024, but domestic production still lags far behind, covering only a fraction of that need. While federal incentives have spurred manufacturing investment, high tariffs on imports and shifting trade policies are creating uncertainty and raising costs, potentially delaying projects. Most solar panels are still imported, often with components from China, and proposed new tariffs could drastically impact prices and availability.
