The language we use on social media is crucial, especially when addressing political issues. A team of researchers from U-M analyzed immigration-related tweets from two political parties and found that dehumanizing metaphors used by authors led to increased support for harsh immigration policies. In this research spotlight from Michigan News, U-M Associate Professor of Information and study co-author Ceren Budak discusses the implications of using coded metaphors.
