How are red meat allergies and climate change related? The answer is ticks, specifically the lone-star tick, whose bite can cause allergic reactions to red meat. The condition, called alpha-gal syndrome, is on the rise in humans as climate change and other factors have led the ticks to expand their habitat, but U-M researchers are working on a new treatment to combat it.
