Over half of U.S. teens in homes with guns believe they can access and load a firearm—even when parents say all guns are locked and unloaded. This new study reveals that just one unlocked gun can undermine safety efforts, highlighting the urgent need for universal secure storage and open family conversations to protect teens. Given firearms are the leading cause of death among youth, understanding teens’ perceptions of access is key to preventing injuries and saving lives.
