According to a U-M study, the increase in ads, influencer marketing, and polarized rhetoric flooding our social media feeds has driven users to seek out private chats and groups. While this doesn’t mean the death of public social media, Pranav Malhotra, study author and assistant professor of communication and media, says it indicates users want more control over the information they see.
