Shared War Experiences Can Boost Refugee Acceptance U M Study Shows

A recent study led by Ji Yeon Hong, an associate professor of political science and Korean studies at the University of Michigan, explored how different narratives influence public attitudes toward refugees, particularly in South Korea. The research found that focusing on shared experiences of displacement can increase empathy and support for refugees, while general wartime experiences may have the opposite effect. These findings may have broader implications for influencing refugee policies and shaping public attitudes toward refugees worldwide.
