What do sports and animal social hierarchies have in common? Math can be used to project the winners in their competitive outcomes. U-M researchers have added a new dimension to the mathematics used to predict the outcomes of all manner of competitions, providing a single framework to calculate the depth of any competition with a winner and loser.
