A new blood test for traumatic brain injuries, developed at Michigan Medicine, delivers accurate results in just 15 minutes. Created in part by U-M researchers Dr. Fred Korley and Dr. Katharine Seagly, the test identifies specific brain proteins to help determine whether a CT scan is needed. Since its clinical launch in December 2024, it has already prevented more than 100 unnecessary CT scans. U-M researchers are now developing a portable version, opening the door to faster, more accessible brain injury diagnosis in places like ambulances and nursing homes. Here’s what that could mean for the future of emergency care.
