Michigan Biomedical Engineering researchers are redefining how we study oral bacteria and health with a system that mimics the human mouth. Led by Assistant Professor Jiahe Li and postdoctoral fellow Zeyang Pang, the platform enables longer, more accurate studies under realistic conditions. The work could lead to new ways to prevent diseases like periodontitis and supports the shift toward human-relevant alternatives to animal testing. Continued collaboration across U-M and beyond may drive broader innovations in oral and systemic disease treatment.
