India’s seven-phase general election is currently underway as of May 2024. The election, the world’s largest with 960 million eligible voters, will determine 543 seats of the Lok Sabha (the lower house of India’s parliament) and India’s next prime minister. Many factors are at play in dictating how people vote, but one that eclipses them all is the effect of social media.
