PrEP, a medication that significantly reduces the risk of getting HIV, could be life-saving for Hispanic women who have been disproportionately affected by the HIV epidemic in recent years. The problem is, they don’t know about it. A pilot program co-led by U-M researcher Maria Jose Baeza Robba is informing more people about the medication by adding it to an existing and proven HIV prevention program aimed at heterosexual Hispanic women. Robba and her collaborators comment on the intersection of community engagement and health for The Conversation.
