A University of Michigan study found that only 1 in 5 older Americans undergo cognitive screening for Alzheimer’s despite the known benefits of early detection and treatment. The underuse of screening is linked to barriers at various levels, even though many are aware of its advantages. With millions of dementia cases going undiagnosed, the question remains: what can be done to bridge the gap between awareness and action in the fight against Alzheimer’s and related dementias?
