James M. Gartenberg New York Alumni Club Scholarship
Through its support of the James M. Gartenberg New York Alumni Club Scholarship Fund, the U-M Club of New York is committed to helping outstanding high school students from the five boroughs of NYC enroll at the U-M. The number of scholarships awarded each year varies depending upon the amount of money currently available for distribution as well as the need that exists at any one time, however our club currently awards $20,000 annually in total scholarships to first-year students from NYC who demonstrate high academic achievement and a financial need.

Background
Since 1968, the U-M Club of New York’s Scholarship Committee has selected NY Scholarship candidates from among incoming U-M freshman from the five boroughs of NYC on the basis of both character and academic merit. Students receiving the Scholarship must demonstrate a financial need and have applied for financial aid.
The Scholarship was renamed to the James M. Gartenberg New York Alumni Club Scholarship in memory of our club’s former President, who was lost in the World Trade Center tragedy on September 11, 2001.
