Richards, who studied engineering and physics and taught dentistry at U-M, invented dental technology and techniques in wide use today and was a foremost authority on dental radiography. The son of a professional photographer, he also radiographed flowers, creating unique photographs that appeared in National Geographic, Smithsonian, and other publications.
