Heavy and medium-duty trucks make up just 5% of vehicles on U.S. roads but produce nearly 30% of road transportation emissions. A U-M life cycle analysis compared diesel, hybrid, battery electric, and hydrogen fuel cell trucks, from delivery vans to 80,000-pound semis, to see what electrification could really achieve. The results point to major reductions, but what would it take to make them a reality?
