The Michigan Union once housed a swimming pool in its basement, which opened in 1925 and hosted swim meets, water polo matches, and recreational swimming for several decades. The facility primarily served male students and saw declining use by the 1960s before closing in 1966. The space was later converted into offices and eventually became the location of the Union bookstore, though traces of the pool’s layout can still be seen today.
