Child Survivors of Critical Illness Are Missing Out on Timely Follow up Care

A new Michigan Medicine study finds that many children who survive critical illness are not receiving follow-up care soon enough after leaving the pediatric ICU. Fewer than one-third had a primary care visit within a week of discharge, raising concerns about gaps in support during a critical recovery period. The findings highlight an opportunity for hospitals and outpatient providers to improve coordination after life-threatening illness.
