Researchers at U-M are helping lead a five-year study to understand how early heart procedures shape brain development in children with complex congenital heart disease. The project will follow hundreds of patients nationwide to compare neurodevelopmental outcomes between babies who undergo surgery and those who receive catheter-based interventions in their first month of life. Read more to see how genetics, environment, and early medical decisions interact, and why U-M clinicians believe this research could reshape treatment for the next generation of pediatric heart patients.
