New findings from U-M’s Monitoring the Future survey show that one in five young adults uses cannabis or alcohol to help them fall asleep. However, these substances can actually disrupt sleep quality, making it harder to stay asleep. Megan Patrick, research professor at the Institute for Social Research, discusses the effects of substance use on sleep.
