Firearm violence remains a persistent and complex challenge in the United States, with more than 46,000 firearm-related deaths reported in 2023 alone. However, this violence is preventable. April Zeoli, Ph.D., M.P.H., director of the policy core at the University of Michigan’s Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention, examines how laws designed to reduce firearm-related harm are working in practice.
