Before being struck down by a federal court, Michigan was one of six states that imposed work requirements as a condition for Medicaid eligibility. While the law made Medicaid enrollment more complicated, the overall relationship between Medicaid coverage and employment outcomes tends to be positive. From 2014 to 2024, a team from the Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation conducted a study to assess the impact of Medicaid on enrollees’ health and employment.
