To better understand how a warming climate might influence harmful algae blooms in Lake Erie, University of Michigan scientists are looking thousands of miles away, to Lake Victoria in Kenya’s Winham Gulf. In collaboration with local officials, the scientists conducted a genetic survey of cyanobacteria (or blue-green algae) in the gulf to help identify and predict similar blooms in Lake Erie. Learn more about the health risks associated with algae blooms in this research spotlight from Michigan News.
