Researchers from U-M have solved the “Dolomite Problem,” a geology mystery involving dolomite—an essential mineral abundant in rocks older than 100 million years but nearly absent in younger formations. Wenhao Sun, U-M professor of materials science and engineering and the corresponding author of the study, hopes that understanding how dolomite grows in nature can lead to learning new strategies to promote the crystal growth of modern technological materials.
