U-M School of Nursing assistant professor Sheria Robinson-Lane discusses health disparity trends among COVID-19 patients in Michigan and nationwide. Robinson-Lane notes research from the study, finding that African American coronavirus patients had the least physician follow-ups, longest delays in returning to the workplace, and quicker readmissions to the hospital. The faculty expert further explains the study, highlighting that although there may have been preexisting conditions, there is a “long history of bias and a low prioritization” of health for persons of color by health care providers.
