Earned his nickname “the Father of Chinese Physics” thanks to his contributions to a number of fields, including the study of transuranic elements and molecular physics. Wu enjoyed a distinguished teaching career, serving on the faculty of institutions from China to Buffalo, New York. He mentored many students who would go on to great achievements of their own, including 1957 Nobel Prize winners Chen Ning Yang and Tsung-Dao Lee.
