Bloch served as a B-17 bomber navigator on 32 missions over Germany in World War II. After founding United Business Company in 1946 with Leon, his older brother, Henry and his younger brother, Richard, pivoted the bookkeeping firm to tax preparation in 1955—creating H&R Block.
