For many U-M students, this fall brings a return to Ann Arbor and the familiar, pre-pandemic, rhythms of campus life. That means the welcome reopening of many campus buildings.
U-M Museum of Natural History
Thursday-Sunday: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
The Museum of Natural History is the only place in the world where you can see a male and female mastodon skeleton side by side. Explore featured exhibits, changing exhibits, and interactive spaces. And be on the lookout for the wolverine. The museum will transition from reservations to open admission on Aug. 12.
U-M Museum of Art
Thursday: 9 a.m.-8 p.m.
Friday-Sunday: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
The U-M Museum of Art (UMMA) is home to exhibitions including Unsettling Histories: Legacies of Slavery and Colonialism and collections including the Weese Collection, which comprises more than 1,000 Chinese ceramics. Once classes start, you can reserve one of the 22 unique study spaces. On Aug. 12, UMMA will shift from timed-entry reservations to walk-ins while still maintaining ResponsiBLUE screening.
Kelsey Museum of Archaeology
Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 1-4 p.m.
Additional access for museum members and docents on Thursday: 9-11 a.m., noon-4 p.m. and for members of the U-M community on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday: 9 a.m.-11 a.m.
The Kelsey Museum of Archaeology is home to special and permanent exhibitions and a notable collection sponsored by the University of Michigan in Egypt excavations. Objects include one of the largest collections of Parthian pottery, more than 40,000 ancient coins, colorfully painted Egyptian mummy masks, and reproductions of the famous murals at ancient Pompeii. Free, timed tickets are available online.
Recreational Sports Buildings
Hours vary at each facility.
You have no excuse to avoid exercise with three facilities on campus that offer an array of activities, from badminton to weight training. Together, the Central Campus Recreation Building (CCRB) and the North Campus Recreation Building (NCRB) have more than 500 machines as well as an elevated running track, sauna, and pool. The Intramural Sports Building (IMSB) and NCRB were also recently renovated. Present your Mcard and your positive ResponsiBLUE screening for access to the facilities, group exercise, personal training, and more.
University Unions
Hours vary at each facility.
The University Unions—comprising the Michigan Union, Michigan League, and Pierpont Commons—are home to cozy study spaces, collaborative student organization spaces, helpful resources, and food options. If you plan to show off these buildings to guests, they need to download and complete ResponsiBLUE guest screening.
