The countdown to finals is daunting for all students, but cloistering yourself in the UGLi for 12 hours each day is not healthy. Take some study breaks. Whether it be treating yourself to a nice lunch or catching a free screening of a holiday movie, it’s important to think of your well-being. Michigan Alumnus offers this list of activities nearby to help you de-stress and recharge.
Hang With Hawkeye
Did you know Wolverine Wellness has its own dog? Hawkeye is not just any dog, but a working sled dog that knows a few tricks. Visit the University Health Service, suite 0210, on Dec. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or Dec. 17 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., to cuddle up with this furry friend. Therapaws of Michigan will also have some puppy pals in need of petting on the first floor of the UGLi on Dec. 13, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. if you can’t break away from your cubicle for long.
Smell the Flowers
Meander through the Matthaei Botanical Gardens, open late on Dec. 12, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with Wandering Washtenaw, a countywide, nature-education program. A guide will teach you all about the plants, trees, and flowers that thrive in the conservatory, as you take in the fragrant air.
Catch Your Breath
Give your mind a break from numbers, words, and dates and head over to room G243 in Angell Hall, where an instructor will guide you through a 25-minute meditation. Bring a cushion—if you prefer it to a chair—and let your mind have a rest. Sessions are from noon to 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 13, 17, and 20.
It’s a Wonderful Free Movie
Watch an angel work hard to earn his wings at a free screening of “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Frank Capra’s film received five Academy Award nominations in 1947 for this Christmas classic, showing on Sunday, Dec. 16, at 1:30 p.m. at the Michigan Theater.
Photo Fun
Learn how to print and share photos and stickers directly from your mobile device with the HP Sprocket Photo Printer. Bring some friends to this Tuesday Tech Talk on Dec. 18 at 2:30 p.m. in the UGLi and leave with a complimentary souvenir photo memory of the fall 2018 term.
