Although most older adults say they plan to stay in their current homes as they age, fewer than half have taken steps to prepare. A new University of Michigan-led poll highlights key gaps based on health, mobility, and homeownership. Cost and lack of support are major barriers to adding safety features like grab bars, walk-in showers, or stair-free entryways. The results raise important questions about how families, providers, and policymakers can better support aging in place before urgent changes are needed.
