It Happened at Michigan: Pumas Have Greeted Guests for 85 Years

Did you know pumas were once native to Michigan? In the 1920s, architect Albert Kahn planned to place lion sculptures outside the new University Museums Building (now the Alexander G. Ruthven Building). However, museum artist Carleton W. Angell felt that pumas were more fitting, given their historical presence in the state.
