Older Adults Want to Cut back on Medication, but Study Shows Need for Caution

If given the okay from their healthcare provider, 80 percent of Americans ages 50 to 80 say they’d be open to stopping one or more prescription medications, according to new data from the U-M National Poll on Healthy Aging reports. But “deprescribing”- tapering or stopping medications- isn’t that simple. Medication use experts from Michigan Medicine analyze the data and comment on the importance of comprehensive medication reviews for the Institute of Healthcare Policy and Innovation.
