Black ash trees are the key component of the work of Indigenous basket weavers Kelly Church (Potawatomi/​Odawa/​Ojibwe) and Cherish Parrish (Potawatomi/​Odawa). The trees are being attacked by an invasive beetle species, killing more of an already limited resource. But Church, Parrish, and other artists are adapting, using different materials to replicate the beauty of black ash baskets.
