Meet Your Trip Host

Stephanie Vidaillet Gelderloos

Stephanie Vidaillet Gelderloos is a native of Southwest Detroit. She attended the University of Detroit Mercy and Eastern Michigan University where she studied foreign languages and linguistics. During her time at EMU, she studied abroad in the Netherlands for a year. While there, she learned to speak Dutch and collaborated on the first comprehensive Frisian-English dictionary. Stephanie’s linguistic work focuses mainly on phonetics and phonology, yet she also specializes in in dialects and Creole languages. It is this area of specialization that allows Stephanie to bring unique educational content to the trips she hosts. Stephanie currently uses her linguistic and language skills working at the University of Michigan-Flint teaching developmental reading and writing along with English as a second language in the university’s Bridge Program for international students. Stephanie speaks Spanish proficiently and serves on the board of the Genesee County Hispanic Latino Collaborative. She lives in Ann Arbor with her husband and two daughters. She is proud to share that her eldest daughter is a recent UM grad and now member of the Alumni Association. Go Blue!
