Trip Highlights

Music connoisseurs and fans alike pay homage in the river-delta region that shaped American music. It is the birthplace of blues, jazz, and rock and roll. Take in influential destinations like the Elvis experience, the Gibson Guitar Factory, or the cultural hotspot of Overton Square and Galloway House where Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Two put on their first performance.

Itinerary

Day 1 – MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE

This included Pre-Cruise Program offers an overnight hotel stay and an exclusive Memphis tour. Perched on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi, Memphis has been welcoming steamboats since before the Civil War. Today the city abounds with Americana, from the legendary Beale Street to Elvis Presley’s Graceland. An additional one-night Go Next Memphis Pre-Cruise Program will also be offered.

Day 2 – MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE

Spend the morning at leisure. In the afternoon, embark on your river cruise aboard the American Queen.

Day 3 – PORT OF THE MISSISSIPPI DELTA/
TERRENE LANDING, MISSISSIPPI

Terrene Landing and the surrounding small river towns emulate a quintessential southern way of life. This region has been home to artists, musicians, and writers since the birth of the nation. Spend your day here touring the Anchuca Mansion, the Old Court House Museum, or the Lower Mississippi River Museum.

Day 4 – VICKSBURG, MISSISSIPPI

Billed as the “Red-Carpet City of the South,” Vicksburg is a unique blend of old and new and displays its heritage with tremendous pride. The site of a dramatic siege in the Civil War, Vicksburg is now a center of southern hospitality with a vibrant downtown area.

Day 5 – NATCHEZ, MISSISSIPPI

Natchez, former capital of the state, is one of the oldest post-European settlements in the Lower Mississippi River Valley. Explore this quintessential southern town full of antebellum architecture and rich cultural heritage.

Day 6 – BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA

Named by French explorer Sieur D’Iberville, Baton Rouge, the capital of Louisiana, has a rich cultural history. The city is home to Louisiana’s capitol building—the tallest in the United States. Spend the day exploring the LSU Museum of Art or the USS Kidd, a retired WWII destroyer.

Day 7 – ST. FRANCISVILLE, LOUISIANA

Celebrated for its more than 140 buildings and plantation homes on the National Register of Historic Places, this quaint town supplies guests an unobstructed view into the past. Marvel at the legacies of the Butlers, the Forts, the Barrows, and the Turnbulls—families who helped build the South.

Day 8 – NOTTOWAY PLANTATION, LOUISIANA

Near White Castle, Louisiana lies one of the South’s most famous plantations, the Nottoway Plantation House. Showcasing three floors, sixty-four bedrooms, twelve hand-carved Italian marble fireplaces, and twenty-two soaring exterior columns, this extravagant mansion was constructed with 365 doors and windows—one for every day of the year.

Day 9 – NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA

Disembark in the morning and bid farewell to the American Queen. An optional Go Next New Orleans Post-Cruise Program will be offered.
