Did you know that the University of Michigan once housed the heart of the internet? The university has a long history of being at the forefront of connectivity, establishing one of the nation’s first computer science programs and one of the world’s first time-sharing computer systems, a pioneer in early forms of email, file-sharing, and conferencing. The Heritage Project explores U-M’s role in shaping the Internet and the world by developing an upgraded NSFNET, an early version of the Internet.
