The fertilizers used to keep fields productive and provide essential nutrients to crops in the Western Lake Erie Basin have negatively impacted the land’s soil health. How can farmers minimize this environmental impact without sacrificing their crop yields? Researchers at U-M have been exploring this exact concern and are finding the answer lies in a better understanding of soil health, from nutrients to carbon. Lead researcher Jennifer Blesh comments on the project for Michigan News.
