The FDA is currently considering a ban on menthol cigarettes, and two U-M researchers have developed a model to simulate the potential benefits of the ban. In an article for The Conversation, David Mendez and Rafael Meza, faculty of the U-M School of Public Health, explore menthol’s role in smoking-related illnesses and deaths. In addition to sharing some of their research, Mendez and Meza also provide insights on why there has been a backlash to the proposed ban and how it might help prevent premature deaths in the U.S.
