We have taken another step toward relinquishing our reliance on non-renewable energy sources. Researchers at the U.S. Government’s National Ignition Facility in California have demonstrated, for the first time, what is known as “fusion ignition.” Carolyn Kuranz, associate professor of nuclear engineering at the University of Michigan, explains the importance of this occurrence and future implications.
