While chest pain is not something that should be taken lightly, with chest pain being the second most likely reason a person goes into the emergency department, it should be noted that not every instance of chest pain is of a cardiac cause. Nicole Bhave, M.D., a cardiologist at the University of Michigan Health Frankel Cardiovascular Center, discusses several reasons a person experiences chest pain and how to differentiate between cardiac and noncardiac chest pains.
