There are a number of factors that contribute to burnout in volunteer content moderators, or VCMs, according to a study by University of Michigan School of Information Ph.D. candidate Angela M. Schopke-Gonzalez. The study focuses on the causes of burnout and ways companies can help alleviate the psychological distress VCMs experience. Schopke-Gonzalez highlights the similarities between VCMs and other volunteer groups and how we can create effective interventions by paying attention to psychological trends from these similar groups.
