Kaushik Ragunathan, assistant professor of biological chemistry at the U-M Medical School, and Julie Biteen, professor of chemistry and biophysics, discuss developing a new synthetic protein design to track protein binding within a living cell to better study gene expression. Combining high-res imaging, synthetic protein design, and computational modeling, the faculty experts note how important it is to understand each step in the process of protein building to control how the epigenetic information is inherited. The faculty experts further highlight the science behind the process.
