Michael Traugott, an emeritus research professor of political studies, and Jonathan Hanson, a lecturer in statistics for public policy, discuss in a Q&A the fraudulent petitions for five Republican candidates for governor in Michigan. The candidates failed to file enough valid signatures, technically not qualifying them for the August primary election – their campaigns hired outside firms to run signature-gathering efforts and faked thousands of signatures. The two faculty experts highlight what this means and what is at stake.
