Did you know that only three planets have ever been discovered caught in the process of forming? Evan Rich, a postdoctoral researcher at U-M, and John Monnier, U-M professor of astronomy, discuss new research, suggesting that instead of looking for individual planets during formation, researchers should look for the environments in which they form. Using the Gemini South Telescope in Chile to look at stars larger than the sun, Rich and Monnier note potential indicators in discovering a new planet around a very young star.
