Did you know that tightly packed stars at the center of a galaxy are called a “bulge”? Katya Gozman, a doctoral student with the U-M department of astronomy, discusses the pseudobulge of the nearby disk galaxy Messier 94. Gozman notes that despite Messier 94 having the largest pseudobulge in the local universe, it it unlikely any massive galaxies have crashed into it in the past. Gozman highlights findings from the study using observational data.
