U-M civil and environmental engineering professors Vineet Kamat and Seymour Spence discuss Line 5, the “controversial pipeline” that runs under Lake Michigan. Governor Whitmer ordered the Canadian oil company, Enbridge, to shut down the segment after it had been knocked off some of its supports as it is designed to last 50 years – it is now 67 years old. The faculty experts offer insight regarding the construction of a new tunnel as well as how the Canadian company might shut down a 4.5 mile section of the pipeline.
