James Neel passed away in his home in Ann Arbor, MI, in February of 2000. During his life, Neel accomplished a great deal. Recognized as one of the greatest scientists in the University’s history and a pioneer of human genetics, Neel led the way on many groundbreaking efforts with genetic diseases. The Heritage Project speaks on the life of Neel and the assault on his reputation that unfolded after his passing.
