More patients are having catheter-based procedures to remove plaque from their arteries to avoid hospital stays. However, the procedures can be more expensive than they are worth. A group of surgeons at Michigan Medicine Frankel Cardiovascular Center and the Department for Surgery say that high reimbursement rates for doing atherectomies may incentivize surgeons to choose them over other viable options.
