While electric vehicle sales steadily increased over the last few years, so did sales of gas-guzzling SUVs and pickups. Replacing petroleum fuels with electricity is crucial for curbing climate change because it cuts carbon dioxide emissions from transportation. John DeCicco, a research professor at the University of Michigan who studies transportation and climate change, says that EVs are great in the efforts to reduce carbon reliability and will get better as the electric grid shifts to carbon-free electricity.
